My Story

Originally from Skopje, Macedonia, Marko moved to Monterey, California as a 15-year-old to train with the Monterey Bay Swim Club and pursue a collegiate swimming career. Marko was recruited by Wingate University, in North Carolina, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman and continued to do so throughout his four years there. In the 2012 Olympics, Marko competed in the 400 individual medley and was selected by the Macedonian federation to bear his home country's flag in the opening ceremonies. He graduated from Wingate in May 2014 with a B.S. in Finance. He continued to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In the process, he swam at six consecutive World Swimming Championships (2011 - 2016). Throughout his career, Marko has been continually giving back to the sport by holding numerous swim clinics, as well as helping kids improve their technique through private one-on-one swim lessons.

INTERESTING FACT:
Marko is an adventure seeker. He loves skiing, roller coasters, and jet skis.

Why did you join SPORTMATCH?

Even though I have been fairly successful through my swimming career, I was not heavily recruited coming out of high school and I wish there had been something like SPORTMATCH when I was going through the process. My passion is helping guide potential student-athletes to the school of their dreams. I am looking forward to developing SPORTMATCH’s swimming division.

What makes SPORTMATCH unique?

One of the most important decisions of one's life is choosing a college. Accordingly, finding the right fit where the student-athlete can combine academics with their sport is not an easy process. The team of experts at SPORTMATCH serves as a strong backbone to guide the family throughout the entire process.
